We are happy to announce that the 9th Asian Fisheries and Aquaculture Forum (9AFAF) of the Asian Fisheries Society (AFS) will be hosted by the Shanghai Ocean University (SHOU) from the 21st to 25th April 2011 in Shanghai, China.

This international forum will bring together leading aquaculture and fisheries scientists and key commercial stakeholders from all over the world to discuss important issues pertaining to sustainable aquatic resource production, utilization and management in the Asia-Pacific. During the forum, many topics, including fish habitats and ecosystems (marine and freshwater) functions and management, the sustainable and effective utilization of fish, shellfish and all aquatic resources etc will be discussed.

The 9AFAF with the theme "Better Science, Better Fish, Better Life" have the following objectives:

1. To provide a venue for scientists and all professional stakeholders from the Asia-Pacific to share their information on the status and recent advances in aquaculture and fisheries;

2. To promote collaboration among scientists, policy makers, managers and industries stakeholders involved in aquaculture and fisheries research, development and marketing;

3. To contribute to the resolution of important issues which are threatening the aquatic bio-resources and sustainable aquatic ecosystem management in the Asia-Pacific.

The 9AFAF will also host two major symposia - the 9th International Symposium of Tilapia Aquaculture (9ISTA) and the 4th International Symposium on Stock Enhancement and Sea Ranching (4ISSESR) as part of the international forum. In addition,the FAO,UN will be sponsoring a special symposium - 3rd Global Symposium on Gender in Aquaculture & Fisheries (GAF3).More information on the special symposium is given on the WebSite : http://genderaquafish.org/ This is the first attempt to bring together all key pure and applied scientists, managers and industry stakeholders in fisheries and aquaculture to discuss issues important to Asia in a common venue.

The International Forum is expected to be attended by government administrators, scientists, industry partners, students, and experts in aquaculture and fisheries.
Presentation and working language in the forum will be English.
